How to study for Pathophysiology + TIPS!

✨PATHOPHYSIOLOGY::

🔶At my school It requires for pre-nursing students to take pathophysiology before applying to nursing school or while in the process of applying to nursing school. ——————————————————----

🔶On our application it’s worth a total of 5 extra points if we pass with an A, 3 with a B, and a C with 1 extra point

————————————————————

🔶A lot of students either take pathophysiology first and then apply to nursing school to receive the extra points. And then their are other students who take it while they are applying for nursing school.

————————————————————

🔶Pathophysiology is a total of 3 credits that meets once a week for a total of 3 hours. ————————————————————

🔶In order for students to pass pathophysiology it is required that we receive a total of 75% on exams. We have a total of 4 exams 3 being 75 questions and the Final with 100 questions. Welcome to nursing school , wait not yet I know in nursing school it’s required to receive a 75% on each one of your exams! I got you there 😅

———————————————————--

🔶This semester we had two professors one being a nursing professor and the other professor being a professor everyone dislikes because of the way he teaches!

Let me tell you everyone I was so afraid to take pathophysiology with the professor everyone disliked just because I would hear horror stories on how hard he was😩! But from almost being at the end of the semester I have learned so much from this professor that it makes me excited to start nursing school🤗😭The nursing professor on the other hand would teach us about concept maps and case scenario questions!

———————————-------------------------

Anatomy & Physiology comes back?!

🔶Your Anatomy and Physiology 1&2 is going to come back! If you thought it was over it’s not! So make sure you review it, the good thing about my textbook was that it included a chapter so we could review it and explained it!

————————————————————

🔶This class gets you prepared on how to start and familiarize yourself with concept maps

————————————————————

🔶We had weekly quizzes were we got quizzes on what we got lectured the week before it was total of 10 questions and it was timed

————————————————————

🔶In the beginning of the semester we had online quizzes and case studies but for some reason they stopped giving them to us after the first exam

————————————————————

🔶We were provided with PowerPoints and readings pertaining to what we are going to go over in class

————————————————————

🔶This class teaches you about the pathogenesis of the disease why we get those certain symptoms and why our body reacts that certain way

————————————————————

🔶That’s why I’m telling you guys that your A&P comes back because at this point you have to know how your body works because if you do then you will learn about why patients receive that certain disease and what causes it

————————————————————

🔶This class is difficult yes because it’s new material we haven’t learned, but if you do good in this class then when it comes to being in nursing school it shouldn’t be that difficult according to what the nursing professor told me. They also told me that this is the foundation of nursing school and how it’s going to be like

Concept Maps :

————————————————————

🔶Concept maps are something I was clue less when I first took this class, I had no idea how to do one or how to set up all the information

————————————————————

🔶Luckily are nursing professor introduced us to the topic on how to set up concept maps ————————————————————

🔶The professor mentioned on how once you’re in nursing school you are going to be seeing concept maps all the time

————————————————————

🔶A tip she gave us was that it’s going to cut down on our study time ————————————————————

🔶So when it comes to do doing the concept maps we have to do it in sections:

Pathogenesis, Clinical Manifestations, Evaluation and Treatment ————————————————————

🔶 I’ve been doing concept maps ever since the nursing professor mentioned it and it has helped with studying

———————————————————--

🔶If you aren’t familiar with doing concept maps no worries, once you are in nursing school the professors will teach you the correct way on how to do a concept map and what they expect

————————————————————

Studying & TIPS:

🔶 Pathophysiology is a hard concept at first mostly when you first start the class just because you don’t know what the professor expects from you or the way they teach the material

————————————————————

🔶 If you receive the syllabus before class starts then get ahead on the reading for the material you are going to be going over that week

————————————————————

🔶Even if it’s just skimming the textbook

————————————————————

🔶 If your professor provides you with PowerPoints or class notes print those out before class ————————————————————

🔶 Once your in class make sure you record the lecture ————————————————————

🔶 While in class write down key points your professor keeps repeating (our class wasn’t offered study guides)

————————————————————

🔶 Don’t be afraid to ask QUESTIONS!! If you aren’t understanding something clearly ————————————————————

🔶 If your class offers a study session after class make sure you go even if it’s for a couple minutes (they help you with reviewing the material that was taught in class and give you tips on how to study etc.)

————————————————————

🔶 How I mentioned concept maps helped me a lot with the material just because it’s new material to me and you are learning about the process of the disease

————————————————————

🔶 REVIEW REVIEW the material!!

————————————————————

🔶 I feel like this material isn’t going to go away because once you are in nursing school you are going to be expected to know this material (no more memorizing lol) ———————————————————

🔶Form study groups

———————————————————

🔶 On YouTube I watch Registered Nurse RN - you guys her videos are so helpful

————————————————————

🔶 Depending on your textbook sometimes they come with a study guide workbook- I ended up purchasing it and I used the workbook to help me with reviewing the material once I am done studying (practice questions are key!)

———————————————————- - -

🔶 Make sure you set up a study schedule and don’t get behind! ———————————————————
